Projects

At Ikoku, our projects are the heartbeat of our mission. Each initiative is designed to bridge gaps in Uganda’s juvenile justice system by protecting, empowering, and restoring hope for children in conflict with the law.

Iko-Divert.

Iko-Divert is our flagship diversion program. We work directly with officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU), and local council leaders. Through training and engagement, we promote child-sensitive approaches like diversion, resolving cases involving children without formal court processes, especially for non-capital offenses. This helps reduce unnecessary detention and encourages restorative justice.

Legal Representation

We provide legal representation for juvenile offenders upon referrals from the police and communities. After reviewing each case file and confirming court dates, volunteer advocates are recruited to assist. We also engage with the child’s family and the victim to ensure comprehensive support throughout the legal process.

A-forty.

A podcast series where we share engaging narratives that feature interviews with experts, key stakeholders, and those directly impacted by the justice system. We get to discuss and advocate for policy changes, the challenges and successes encountered in our work and child protection as a whole.
